Thanked: 2591This is not a lapping plate, it is a granite reference plate.
You can use it a s a base for sandpaper sheets that you can use to lap with.Stefan

If you buy some abrasive powder (SiC, AlOx, SiO2 etc.), it will be a nice lapping plate.

Thanked: 202However it wil not last very long flat if you will use abrasive powders directly on it as it abrades plate as well as hones.

Re: Lapping plates/stones
I was going to go with the wet/dry sandpaper. 220 600 1000 1500 grits
Thank you,

I lap my hones with a DMT325 so I wouldn't be going past around the 320 - 400 wet and dry sandpaper on that plate.
Having said that, I've never tried anything finer for lapping so, maybe someone who has will chime in and share their experiencesHang on and enjoy the ride...

Thanked: 13245Very few stones need anything higher in grit than 325..
Perhaps a few of the Oilstones and certain Japanese Hard stones...
