    You have a true point there the label I saw did not have the boarder nor the E&co on it but the other end had the standard gelb grun

    It piqued my curiosity but IIRC it did look like it was as old as the stone. Maybe the vendor, way back when, put it on there or it was an escher label before they printed one with the more familiar border ? I've seen eschers with the signature on the back label warning against buying imitations with no signature.

    By the same token I've seen a presumably older escher with the correct back label but no signature. I know absolutely that stone is the real deal, which is why I presume it is older than those with sigs ..... so ..... anyone who knew for sure what the story was is long gone now.
