    Default Bevel setters!

Christmas is around the corner and I'm asking the parental units for a bevel setter!

Please chime in and let me know your feelings. I'm torn between Naniwa SS, Chosera, Shapton and a few other 1k stones. I've read through some previous posts that were from some time back and want to know what people are thinking NOW.

IF you were to buy a NEW 1k stone, what would it be and why? If money was no issue, which would you pick?

Enlighten me and maybe make me aware of some other manufacturers as well!

So far i've seen the: Wustoff, Boker, Shapton pro/glass/japanese, Naniwa, Chosera. I know there are a few others but can't remember the names.

    Thanks for your help guys.!

If money is no issue I would go for the Chosera.

After reading multiple threads, that seems to be the popular choice! Thanks for your input

I have both a King 1k and a Naniwa SS 1k. I will says that the King is really fast & has an "abrasive" feel to it, while the Naniwa is much more smooth (but still a fast cutter). I guess it boils down to personal preference. As people (who are much more knowledgable than myself) have stated, the Naniwa is probably better suited as being part of the entire Super Stone progression, instead of using it on its own.

I have not tried a Chosera, but those seem to be the best ones In a lot of people's opinions.

I've had norton 1k, naniwa 1k, DMT 1200, shapton pro 1 & 2k and the chosera 1k. Now all I've got is the chosera 1k and it is head and shoulders above the rest. Not that they wouldn't get the job done but ....... if a razor was like Superman the chosera is like kryptonite, if you know what I mean.

I did something kind of odd by some stone puritan's lol. I bought a really cheap two sided stone from my local hardware store. What a piece of junk lol - sort-of. It was so warped... I actually began the lapping process on my driveway under my feet lol! It took months for the grit to wash off the driveway lol!!

Anyway - if I have a eBay razor that's really bad, I use it "lightly" and then move on to my Nani 1K. It really works great to be honest, and best of all... I have something to sharpen my cutlass with too lol.

After starting as a Coti only guy, the value of a good bevel setter is probably more clear to me than most lol (my coti was all but useless at setting a bevel - or I was useless with my coti - you know - whatever lol). I don't use my bevel setter much but... oh the joy when you need it lol. Good luck!
