Thanked: 116My new JNAT - Ozuku Mizo Asagi lv 5+ and Asano Nagura set + Tomonagura
After getting rid of some of my favourite razors I've been able to afford a purchase from our great friend Maksim over at Japanese Natural Stones Toishi
Not only is Maksim an incredible wealth of knowledge, his prices are fair, his packaging is immaculate and his shipping is fast (2 days from Denmark to Canada and my doorstep!!!!!).
Anyhow, Maksim says I need to lap my stone but it seems pretty flat AND I don't have a DMT yet (i'll borrow Ironsidegnr's .
I'll get to the point already, here is the porn!
First up is the Ozuku Mizo Asagi level 5+ 8" x 3" x just over 1" thick. Pictured beside my Chosera 1k to give an idea of size.
Next up are my Asano Naguras: Botan, Tenjyou, Mejiro and the Tomonagura.
Please enjoy these pictures responsibly. Any feedback would be MUCH appreciated. I still have not tried these out; just got them delivered after work. What sucks even worse is that the Air Force is sending me to Winnipeg to be part of a Quality Selection and Review Board so they're staying at home, untouched for a full 7 days .
One more time: Thanks to Maksim for being such a gentleman and providing such great service.

I don't need to see this. I have 4 naturals on its way. Will post later when they get in. Those j-nats sure look pretty! Enjoy. 7 days? That's some short TDY. My longest was 60 days (first dessert storm)! Double O

Thanked: 116What do you have coming your way??
Yeah it's just a week long information gathering section for the people that design and implement change to courses. I did 3 months in Afghanistan back in 2008 @ Kandahar Airfield and loved it!

Sick! And j-Nats keep getting my interest. Need to educate myself a litle more (on both, honing and J-Nats) before I make a decision. Double O

Thanked: 116You outbid me on all of those LOL. I got sick of trying to land an escher/thuringian so I went to Maksim and raided his stock. If you go to the JNS website they have a pretty informative Wiki, we have one here too, that outlines beginner Jnat stuff.

Thanked: 43Those look really nice there Brooksie!! I think you will be very happy with them. I'm a little jealous too. I have never tried a solid base stone and nagura honing. I've always wanted to.

Nice looking stone Jeremy. I don't know much about the j-nats. For anyone lusting after one here is a good read from someone who does know about them.
Double0, that 'partial label' stone is a Hohenzollern. Good stuff.

Thanked: 116So i caved in and used the stone without lapping it. Maksim said it needed it but... damn this thing is flat right out of the box!
My brothers christmas present is a 6/8 genco round point that i got custom scales for and polished/sharpened myself. I followed my regular progression. Chosera 1k, Welsh slate trio with heavy slurry and dilutions THEN to the JNAT! I used all 4 naguras in the order above and.... WOW the finish on the bevel is like nothing i've seen yet. I go upstairs, strop and try my HHT just for fun. For what it's worth this thing sliced through my wifeys hair like nothing has before. I can't wait to test shave this thing, i mean c'mon i have to make sure it works before i give it to family right?
People talk about a learning curve with jnats but i just did what i normally do and got superb results; i think. I'm used to using a slurry and dilutions and think i've got a good feel for when you need to dilute and progress.
OH, i also sliced my thumb open on the razor... been using these things and honing for myself since the start of the summer and only until i use a jnat do i cut myself... I hope this thing doesn't turn into a vampire stone like my bokers that bit me with every shave (which i sold to buy the stone.... ahhh crap.... a curse perhaps?)Last edited by brooksie967; 12-08-2012 at 06:06 PM.

Thanked: 43I'm glad it's working so well for you. I totally get the thought that there is nothing out there like the edge you get from a Jnat. Let us know how the shave goes.
