Thread: Grecian / Idwall / Charnley /something else...please help ID

I'd really appreciate it if you could help me ID this stone.

It does have a similiar pattern of the Grecian stones, but better pictures ,close up, sides, with slurry might yield better identification.I really dont think its a Charnley.

Yes, it looks like a Grecian. How hard is it? It will still be a Grecian, I'm just asking.

Not sure yet. I bought it today and will get it this week. Any idea what I can expect from a Grecian?

LLyn Idwall and you can expect the same as from CF. From pics I would say you will need a bit of lapping to do which I expect take a bit of time. Do not rush it or use too much of pressure. Nice stone enjoy.

The stone was originally described at ebay as being a guaranteed Charnley Forest. It said two persons the seller asked assured him they were absolutely sure it was a CF. No refund because of it being the real thing. I felt obligated to inform the seller about it being a Llyn Idwal imo to prevent an ebayer getting disappointed.

LIs can be great and it's a large one so I'm sure you got a good deal.

It doesn't look like a Charnley. I asked this once more, but, are there any evidence that the Grecians are from the same mine-quarry the Llyn Idwals come from? And, not all Grecians, nor Llyn idwals are hard like glass. Some are much softer. The same goes for the Charnleys.

There is only one quarry in that area. However it is not consistent all way through it. At least that was it when I was last time there over the New Year.
