Interesting. I have started using tape recently (because I was honing someone else's razors) and found that on the coarser stone (1K and 4K) , the tape gets sanded away as well.
It is not all the way through, but I was wondering if you would replace it or not.

I have tried to, but I ended up with a double bevel because the honing angle changed ever so slightly.
