    Default Naniwa Video

    Hi everybody. I am finally ready to jump into honing. I looked at all the videos and read all the information a while back but decided to wait before I got into it. Now the time is here I want to try to hone my razor back up to shavable status... I saw a wicked video by one of the members here using the naniwa combo stone for retouching a razor. It's been so long I can't find it anymore... Can someone make suggestions?

    That's helpful, its not the one I was looking for but I think I got it. Only question is do I soak the Naniwa if I'm only going to use the 8k side ( i have the 3/8k naniwa) I can't remember if it needed soaking or you we're supposed to leave it dry and does it need a slurry?

    no need to soak. just drop water on it and spread it with your hand.

    As you can see in Lynn's video, you don't need to raise a slurry.

    @Eddycat,

    This is interesting. I've recently watched one of gssixguns naniwa videos and he soaks his as he seems to find it "stablizes" them.

    I'd be interested to hear more on the naniwa stone treatment after grid lapping wet....

    I just spray water on them a couple times until the water starts to puddle and then begin honing. Only takes a few minutes.

    Have fun.

    What's the deal with the stickers that come on the face of the stones? It was a PITA to get them off without leaving the sticky residue behind. I ended up using goo gone and wasn't super happy about that. Any ideas on getting them off another way and please tell me that goo gone isn't going to do anything bad to my stones!

    Pealed mine right off and lapped.

    Have you lapped the stone yet? It should go away. I would be pretty careful about putting anything on the stone though and be more worried about that damaging the stone that way.
