This sounds Like a dumb question even to me, but I was wondering if anyone has even attempted it and what the results were. Have any of you used a dremel and the different sharpening attachments to try and hone a SR?

don't do it!!....
Haha I wasnt planning on it, sounds Like a terrible idea just wondering if anyone has. Plus I have this pakistani blade that I'm really not worried about messing up right now
I have used a dremel for cleaning on a restore but would be too hard to evenly sharpen and well as probably overheat the edge and lose temper. (the blades temper, not mine....well maybe I would lose mine too)
Not April 1st is it ? Using a Dremel to hone a razor is kinda like using a hammer as a screwdriver.

I nominate this to be the theme song of anyone actually brave/foolish enough to try this. :)

Just need to shake your head some times:)
Well....
Seriously, I know a guy that claims good results with compound loaded felt buffing wheels.
I have warned him of the concerns associated (mainly thin hard steel resonating against an imperfectly round wheel resulting in fractures). Other concerns include angles, frowns, and heat.
Long story short, anything is probably possible, but there comes a time when we should all ask WHY?!? There are far fewer variables and concerns with the boring ole' hone. Why not reduce the problem to its most basic form?
It would be about as successful as fly fishing out of a helicopter. :beer2:
I've heard of people using the Dremel Lawn Mower blade attachment to sharpen machetes. I can get a machete shaving sharp with a chisel, DMT diamond file, and a Lansky puck, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to shave with it!
And here I thought we needed a joke thread.
Chuck Norris could do it. But he doesn't need to, because he can shave with a chain saw.
I have a pakistan blade that I was going to "butterknife" to give to my brother to practice stropping. This is the only reason I would take a dremel to an edge.
Well I would further refine the non-edge, but thanks for the headsup.
screendoor/submarine!lol
If your going to go anywhere near a dremel with straight, wear safety glasses. It just isn't safe.
Bread knife it on a stone.
Darn. I was hoping for before/after pics of the dremel honed razor.
Oh I'm not going to attempt that haha.
You were correct. :)
Don't do it on any razor you might ever want to use or sell again, if you want to give it a try.
The only time I've done something like that is to reprofile a razor that was otherwise worthless. Breadknifing would have been another option but this was faster and I didn't have a beltsander at the time.
However, using a rotary tool directly on an edge is not a safe endaveour. Be very careful, and be prepared for potential destruction.
In any case, I wouldn't call it honing, as in 'making the edge useable for shaving' :)
Wow! I thought I was the only functional human out there that had even considered putting a Dremel attachment to an edge. All I can say is that the experiment lasted less than 15 seconds and I was damned lucky a shard of sharp steel didn't embed itself into one of my eyes! It was a beautiful blade with even more beautiful scales. Well at least I still have a very nice set of scales that I can use on a blade that deserves them. Nah don't do it. I'd have to rank that idea (when I had it) up there with buying an ebay SR without seeing a photo of the blade or maybe trying to sharpen a blade made with Pakistani steel. :-)
Well it does come with "sharpening" bits. I guess the right question to ask would be wth do you use them on haha
I have a Dremel & I think the bits you are talking about are more for grinding than sharpening, I could be wrong; you may have bits that I have not seen. Anyway grinding, as you know, is not really sharpening. You use the bits to grind off & smooth rough cuts, knock off burrs, anything that you don't have a better tool for & your not too worried about perfection.
Just my thoughts.
Dremels are good for sharpening chain saws, not knives!
Husqvarna chain saws that is, the king!
Going to try this later, pics coming:)
Ok, the razor are ready. Going to try it when I shave later:)

It works! Used king 1000 stone to get edge then the dremel, with paste on buffer wheel, 2 rounds on eatch side. Then 10 with old leather strop. Shaved almost as good as the pro honed one!
Abit hard ADG but I din't use lather 2 times, and that made even the birnando razor strugle;kr Damn the prep are important!
It would be less dangerous to use the dremel attachments to buff or grind the hair off your face I think.
Why is it dangerous?
Hehe, not going to use it. Was just to answer the tread:) I use the dremel to polish, good for that.
Don't think it will be a consistent metod of sharpening and also the point with hones for me are that it's fun!
Still it got surprisingly sharp...
