Do I hone? Yes. Do I do it right? Perhaps not by most peoples definitions. Though I did get a cheap 440 stainless Sweeny Todd blade converted into a good shaver. After a few modifications of course. Don't try that at home kids. I am a trained professional. Professional what? That remains to be seen.

That's where I am, just one refresh so far...just a coti, CroX balsa board and a leather strop board with some DOVO white / grey paste on the linen on another strop....

    The very definition of YMMV.

I hone my own stuff and for friends/family. Unless its a real pain in the arse. Those ones get sent out to some unfortunate person.

When it comes spending my time on something, I am very selective. When I first got in to Straight razor shaving, I didn't account for the task of honing. I did buy a 12k grit stone, and touch up my razors form time to time. But with all of the things to do in life just now- I can't be bothered to learn honing. Mabye later.

i set my mind learning how to hone.. i think i shave with a straight to be honest because it just is a better shave.. and i like nice razors.. i have been trying to hone for about over a year now some of my razors come out great when i do them, others i just cant seem to do at all..i learned how to rip houses apart and every aspect of putting a house back together in a year having no idea what i was doing but learned as i went and just kept reading and asking questions and i got it.. Honing i cant seem to grasp.. i get the idea i see it done but when i go to do it its something that i just cant get.. even after asking questions etc.. starting to think i may just be sending them out now.. is this my hobby im not so sure now, it has made something relaxing and set time aside away from everything just for myself. but to me its more about just geting the best shave and trying new things.. maybe one day ill get this honing thing and it will just click like it does Lynn.. u can read all day long and watch but u really need somebody to teach u or show u.. could u do a opem heart surgery by following a book and without killing somebody ?

I'm up in the air right now. I have a coticule and a Thuringian I'm still trying to figure out. I have succeeded at lapping film, but Jnat edges from the pros I've tried are sooo nice. Maybe I should sell my rocks, get Jnat edges on everything and call it a day. We'll see.

If you buy a JNAT, you might end up with a PHIG that immigrated to Japan a few years ago.

That's why you have to buy from a reputable seller. I bought all my stones from Maksim at JNS. Very fast shipping and he is very knowledgeable and in a live chat can help you select a great stone. I would go along with his recommendations regarding a matched tomo as well as asano naguras.
