My intention was never to instruct anyone to take 1500 laps on their hone.
I started taking ten then observing. Seeing no change went to 20, then 50 then 100.

I received a Carborundum 118s in pristine condition, and I can tell just by feel this thing is rough. I would bet it is in the 2k zone.

As a note, I shaved with the blade yesterday and it is fantastic.

I've used my King Kutter K20 with good results when doing a refresh.
Directions are pretty clear, 4 to 5 strokes.
"Water, soap-suds or oil can be used...but clear water is best."

Not bad for $20 off Craigslist
Great Thread for us newbies...I'm just not ready to start full bore honing....

    Hahaha...this is an interesting thread.

So, what's a Swattty 4-line, heard of the 2 and 3, but have also heard of a 4 line?

For me this experiment was eye opening. So much so that I recommend a careful observation of the results of any barber hone.

As a result of this thread I put my 3 traveling SRs to the barbers hone as per instructions, plus a few laps on the CrOx webbing, then about 80-100 laps on the strop (Yes, I travel with all that gear).
Popping hair everywhere and it encouraged me to go for a nice 3 pass shave this morning.
Aside from a potentially hazardous scything motion (quickly attended to by the alum block) I've got a superb shave!
I've learned enough to not shout out BBS, but I'll say it is easily one of my finest results.
I'm ready to brief that 1-Star this morning...all thanks to a $20 barbers hone and the things I've learned here at the Straight Razor Place (see the way my bragging is also somewhat blamed on you via a compliment?).
    Thanks Gentlemen.

At least I came to the same conclusion that the swaty improved the edge over an 8k.
