Thanked: 18Is this honing technique, or shaving technique?
Gents, I am finding that I can take a newly shaved razor that shaves UNcomfortably, and get it to shave comfortably by pressing the razor firmly against the skin during the stroke. 'More pressure' feels to me like it should be a 'Danger'sign--or a dangerous practice. But..there it is.
Is this a sign of the right shaving pressure, or unskillful honing?

Thanked: 177Thats a first for me. Pressing hard would seem to increase the razor burn and skin loss(you lose skin when you shave). I will watch this one.

Thanked: 1263I would say that if you're having to apply pressure then that means the blade isn't sharp enough. One of the easiest ways to get nicks or cuts is from a dull razor as it tends to lead the user to use pressure to make up for lack of sharpness.

Did you mean to refer to a "newly shaved razor"?

It hurts my skin just imagining myself pressing the razor hard against my face. I think you have a problem with your razors edge.

Yea the guys are right. It's not good shave technique. Of course, maybe you have skin like a Rhino or are one of those contrary shavers who do things wrong but it turns out right for you.
