A couple of other things jump to mind.
How rusty was the razor before honing/restoring ? Wouldn't be the first Sheffield wedge to crumble after a few shaves.
Do you have a wife & kids with access to said razor ? Mysterious damage can be from other parties using the razor prior to your shave.
