Thanked: 3795It is a stereomicroscope--a Zeiss Stemi SV8. Its advantage as a stereomicroscope is that I can quickly focus by moving the blade up and down to focus and can rotate the blade to change the light reflection. It makes for a jerky video, but allows me very quick in and out observation while honing.

All this to say there is a chip in the edge. Hone the damn thing again.
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.

In fact the chip could have come about thru your handling & not the factory.
Laying an open razor down on a hard surface, closing blade on the scales or bumping a fingernail are all likely. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
