Do you tape it up when honing?

Yup, one layer on the riga when honing.
Like to keep that new spine edge nice and crisp.
Terrific shaver mine is.
:tu
Ok, sounds good. Former owner of mine said he was using multiple layers (can't remember how many) and I didn't see the need so I dropped it down to 1.
griffon 35 clean up and rescale on what i was told was a nakayama. im still learning my jnats but this feels hard and pretty fine. its small (6in) but wide (3in) and a lot of fun to play with.

I've been talking about this Wostenholm in the What Are You Working On thread.
I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to hone it well due to all of the hone wear at the spine, but I decided to give it a shot.
In addition to the hone wear, it was a bit warped. I've had difficulty in the past with razors in that condition. This razor honed up well after a bit of extra bevel setting time.
I think what helped me was this thread:
https://sharprazorpalace.com/hones/1...than-mile.html
Though that thread contained some differences of opinion between a few of the experienced folks, what I came away with is making sure each part of the edge gets contact with the stone.
The razor really did shave great, and comfortably. This makes me want to get back to my other problem razors and give them another shot. Hopefully the razor I just honed turned out that way due to some newfound technique and not just luck. ;)
FYI, I went with 3 layers of tape since this was a wedge with spine wear. It seemed to work fine, but I'm also curious what would happen with 2 layers. Maybe next time.
A few nice long-dormant blades, an Ern BAR Science and an Original Shultze.
Even though they seem touch-up candidates, I have no idea how or when they were honed.
So to the green hone a bit with a layer of tape to ensure all is smooth and even. Everything after will go swimmingly! ;)

So got through the Naniwa 1K and 4/8 Norton last night. Finishers for the boys tonight. Boy! These are thin!
The Science began to back-up a bit on the 10th lap on the 12K. I honestly think it was done off the 8K. A few back-strokes there.
Time to see how much Escher they like. I REALLY need a shave! ;)

No. The tape is not worn-out at the toe(s). A reflection.
Otay, Sometimes the hone of the day just sits there. Good hone! :rofl2:
Got all set up to start and decided my Zen was not there.. Beer! :beer1:
Been a hard week. My hands are tired. Been raining crazy all day.
Somebody hone something on something! ;) Maybe in a day or three I will get to it.
