Shapton had a similar problem a few years back. Apparently, in very dry conditions like in the US southwest, say 15-20% humidity, the matrix would dry out faster on the surface than the interior and that stress led to cracking. They reformulated the matrix for the US market, and that's why gray market Shapton's are not covered by warranty in the US. The current instructions also say not to dry the hone with a fan, which would also dry the surface faster.
There have been other posts about Choseras cracking, but I do not know if Naniwa fixed anything, bad batch, etc.
How are you drying the hones just out of curiosity?
