If you have the ability, there are a couple of guys here who really know barbers hones, make a picture and the name then ask here if it's something that is quality. And be patient, and if ron don't mind(utopian) he's got a good knowledge on them you could ask him once you get the info, a barbers hone will keep your razor shave ready,
Benz, you hone your razor every shave? Wow. Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Thanked: 250I only hone when it starts to pull and the strop won't correct the edge. If I'm mid-shave I'll pull out the barber hone just to get through my morning ritual then that razor gets ear marked for the coticule. For some reason I was blessed with an excellent coticule. After about 15 x-strokes no slurry the razor is ready for the strop and good for many shaves.

Gflight. That's one of my barber hones in the picture. That particulate on is marked Wester Bros. and it turned out to be pretty bad. I've got a few barber hones and most of the time it's a roll of the dice when I buy them. My first barber hone was a Franz Swaty that was given to me. It was and exelent hone and I used it as a finisher and for touch ups. The Swaty's were very popular and very common, especially the ones with three lines of writing at the bottom. They're pretty much intended for use on a well honed razor that is slightly loosing it's smoothness. If you have a razor that's not shaving at all though, it won't be of much help though.

Thanked: 246Go back and get the names and post them here, then ask again which you should get. There might be a standout.

I was doing that exact same thing when you posted.
It is about two hours from me on the way to my mother-in-laws. Came back through so I can work next week, but I have to go back that way Friday again.
This one says Keen Cutter
Top one say Koenig, bottom says Shapleigh Hardware Co.
This one says Shumate
Just pic of some DE blades that were there."When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound,

Should I get one of these barber hones or just let them sit?
I am not ready to do the honing thing yet but didn't want to pass up getting a touch up if it is a decent deal.

I don't have experience with any of those particular hones. I'd recommend picking at least one of them up and giving it a try. When one of your razors starts to pull a bit, give it five or six laps and see what happens. Chances are, even if it's not a great hone, it will improve the edge. You can maintain a razor indefinitely with a barber hone and a strop.

If you go to eBay and type in barber hone, you'll see tons of them and it will kind of give you an idea of what they go for, plus give you some familiarity with how many brand names there were. If you ever see one that's labeled "Barber's Delight" Escher for $10-$20 grab it at once.
