I,ll second everything so far specially what Razorfaust said, I,m here for the shave not the ideal of my stone is the best Jnat,Escher, Coticle, whatever. I've gad then honed on all of them now and by those who know how, the edge I get with the synthetics is like has been said boring, but as good as anything else. The SG20 will give you a super good smooth edge without drama. Heck ask Lynn, he uses one like a workhorse daily. Tc

I enjoy honing when it needs to be done or simply a blade that needs a little refreshing. It is not really the honing I like as much as the satisfaction of getting a great shave afterwards. I'm chasing the shave not the hones. If the SG20 helps with that. it will be all worthwhile. I'm certainly not at the point of going to the naturals searching for the one that will be perfect. I don't have the time or the passion for honing to do that. I just want to be able to get that great edge that gives me a super shave, that is why I hone.

Well if that's your style, than this hone will make it fairly straight forward and you wont lose sleep over having the right geological specimen to get a premium edge. I know it all sounds like hype but this was the one time I experienced hype that delivered. Sharp and smooth I don't know what else to say, it just works.

I like my Thuringian as well but that is also a very easy to use and consistent natural. Every body is different in what they are looking for, some like the complexity, searching for the ultimate natural progression. Me i'm not there yet, I just want to shave, and I want it to be good.
Not to hijack the thread. I have been thinking about the 20k is there really any difference between that and your Thuringian? And if so in what way?

Well for starters time is a factor you can 20 strokes with a Gok-20 and done. The Thuri may take a 100 it depends but its slow. The strategy for a Thuri unless you want to do endless strokes is to get your blade shave sharp as possible and then finish on the Thuri for unparalleled comfort and smoothness. Thuris are very forgiving and practically impossible to overhone and edge and leaves the blade with a very stable edge in my opinion. The Gok leaves a smooth edge as well not quite as good but sharper. People dont like synthetics for a lot of reasons many of those reasons have to do with skin sensitivity as some will leave a harsher edge than naturals tend to do. I dont have these skin issues and I love a sharp blade i like the smooth skin friendly feel of a natural but I dont require it. Thats my reasoning.

I also use the naniwa super stones 1K 3 5 8 12K and was very happy with the shaves then a friend showed me what the Suehiro 20K would do for me. Needless to say I blue my allowance for quite a while. Had to have one. Never regretted it. I know that there are other stones out there but this one for me is so easy and quick. Oh and that little stone that came with it my friend told me that it really wasn't necessary for that stone so i have never used it and it gives me a great edge.

The Suehiro 20k is hard to beat. A lot of bread but it delivers the goods. I agree that the naturals are a rabbit hole to throw money in ......... don't ask me how I know ........ not that they aren't way cool if you're into it, but with the 20k you won't need to go there ...... unless you just want to.
