Thanked: 481I keep forgetting that picture exists when this question comes up! The visual is much easier than trying to put it into words.
Edit: Also I just finished shave number 3 with this blade since it's last touch up. No change in shave quality, 2 pass CCC no burn and no tugging. Looks like progress is being made. One more week without anything but strop work on this blade and I might try touching up something else on the 1/4/8 to see if I can repeat the process.Last edited by Marshal; 05-29-2016 at 11:38 PM.

Sounding Good! I highly recommend that you stick to razors that are at least in the same grind/size When you go to experiment with touching up. Origin (Manufacturer) would help to keep the 'test' more accurate. However that's probably hard to do so have at it and while your having fun, take some notes as they may come in handy down the road
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 481Haha, well...the majority of my razors are vintage, and from varied manufacturers. Whereas the one I'm working with now is the 2 year old Dovo I bought when I first took a stab at shaving with a straight. I do have a Germania Cutlery Works that's the same grind/size at least. But I think I'm going to work on a Torrey straight I had to do a little resto work on. I'll be really happy if I can put a solid shaving edge on it.

Thanked: 4812 weeks since that blade last saw a hone, and it doesn't seem to have degraded in the least. I still feel like something is lacking in the stropping area of things, but the razor still shaves the same as it did the day it came off the hone, so I must be doing something right.
I've already touched up my Torrey straight on the 1/4/8. I'll give it one more look under the loupe tonight and be sure I've got it right then the experiment shall continue.

Thanked: 481Took a run at it with the Torrey - close, clean, and comfortable. Now we're cooking with gas!

Thanked: 481This poor Dovo and I just don't seem to get along. I tossed the 4k in the water so I could do a quick touch up. Well, when the open blade hit the metal band that lines the edge of the TV tray I use for a honing table, that turned into a 4K bevel set, joint (because that's what I was going to do in the first place), reset and finish up on the 8k. If I keep up at this rate, by this time next year this Dovo will be 2/8 and I'll be in the market for a replacement
