    Default Honing Olympics

Has an event with such magnificent and noble cause ever been organized here? I think this would be a fun thing to do. So who's game?

I would like the viral risk to be kept at a minimum.

If this is meant to be some sort of competition, then the usual problem arises--how would it be judged?

You both have been on SRP long enough to remember Bart trying to organize some BS like this back in 08

Total absolute flop once all the variables were discussed

So, sounds like Glen is in. Who else?
    State v. Durham, 323 N.W. 2d 243, 245 (Iowa 1982) (holding that a straight razor is per se a "dangerous weapon").

Who is going to judge assuming all variables associated with honing are equalized for everybody ( which is impossible) ?

I'm content to hone my own blades and am very happy with the results. I'll let you guys arm wrestle over this one.

That was exactly why I raised the question of judging.

Funnily enough, I read the aforementioned thread a couple months ago. And to play devil's advocate here are my thoughts.

At the end of the day, even as competitive as some people may be, this would be just for fun. Please bear that in mind.

Panels of judges should be those that have hones in each category, 3 people per category if capable. A single person could be a judge in multiple categories in case of limited participants. 3 judges so that at max a participant in a category has to pay postage 4 times. 1 to the first judge, the intermediate steps and the return journey. However, to minimize costs the first judge could bundle all participants' razors in one shipment to the second and third judges. Judge 3 would have to separate the razors and mail them back to participants. The first and third judges will have extra work to do and will have to keep track of the razors. To help the judges keep track, razors must be sent in boxes with username, real name and address. This will be of great help to judge 3.

Each category should be on different aspects of honing stones. The categories I have thought up of are as follows
-Norton 4k/8k (from bevel to finish)
    -JNAT
    -Coticule
    -Naniwa

There are other finishers out there, but I left them out to keep the more common stones as categories and to not have 1.37 billion categories.

Postage should be cover by participant in both directions. This may be costlier for those that are sending internationally to judges, so far that is the second biggest issue that I can find. However, bragging rights in anything are never free.

Razor choice is up to the participant to decide which make/era is best for his/her category. That is simply a part of the challenge, to get the best edge off of a stone.
