Thanked: 3227The best thing I could say is to please stop honing razors, especially new ones, till you can get ahold of a member near you for some one on one instruction on honing. I don't think Hirlau was kidding about a moment of silence for that Boker.

more bluntness, cause I,m not the most subtle guy here. how long have you been straight razor shaving? you need to back up and take Lynns advise about one step at a time, learn to lather, learn to shave , learn to strop, learn to refresh, then learn to hone,, till you can shave you wont have a clue about what the edge is supposed to be like, as evident by how much steel you have removed. fine razor got abused, send it out and get it fixed then go slow, and put your location in your profile instead of hiding, there is more than likely someone close who can help you.
never know you might be close to me, and as critical as I am I am also one who will help Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Thanked: 13246You are "Chasing the Edge" ie: the spine and the edge are being worn away at a rate that never allows for the bevel to be set..
As the edge gets close you are grinding away on the spine which changes the angle on the edge and you losing the bevel again as it is worn away
There are so many errors on this razor I do not know where to start ,,
I am not even sure 3 layers of tape will bring that back into form
For other newb honers reading this
There is an expression "When you find yourself in a hole , Stop digging" this also applies to honing
If you keep doing the same thing and making no headway stop honing, grinding away steel is never a good thing, it might sometimes be needed, but is never a good thingLast edited by gssixgun; 11-28-2016 at 03:46 AM.

my friend, what you are doing is not honing,, what is your experience with honing razors? again if you don't even shave with them your fighting an uphill battle. and yes what Glen said you aint even close to Lynns method, cause he don't ever do that to a razor. its your money , so go ahead and keep wrecking them, but the smart thing to do would be send a razor out that you haven't destroyed, or grow a beard . there are plenty of guys out there who can hone one for you till you get an idea. No,,,,,
Choosing a "method" is not the issue at this point. Spend more time in our library section above and learn how the razor applies itself to the stone.
Take a break from the stones; a day or two until you understand the mechanics of honing better. We have all been in a situation similar when we first started.

Thanked: 13246Well no sense in continued talking over spilled milk
You have no business honing razors yet, especially without tape..
Send me the best out of the two and I will attempt to get in shaving for you,,, Honing is on me,,shipping is on you but I cannot promise miracles nor can I put steel back on a razor
Fire me a PM if you want to take me up on the offer..
