Thanked: 237Whew. I don't know how to put this, but I feel a blunt answer is best. You have over honed that razor, more so than I've ever seen. There are likely some serious geometry issues now.
Your best bet is to send that one off to a professional, and the other if it looks anything like that. The chosera is a very fast cutting stone. 3 hours of bevel setting was about 2 hours and 55 minutes too much. Second step, find someone local to you that can show you the right way to set bevels.
I don't recommend putting any more new razors to the stones until you know what you're doing. Buy a cheap used one that doesn't have a lot of wear to start practicing on.

Guci, don't feel too bad about this and don't beat yourself up. It's obvious that you are eager to learn, but you need a mentor to guide you. They can prevent you from hours of frustration, and more importantly, wasting money on razors. I have some skills in metal working, but before I attempted to hone a razor, I'd watched MANY hours of videos, and read all I could here on SRP. I'd already learned to straight shave too. Honing should be the final skill you learn with the straight razor.

Thanked: 3228The best thing I could say is to please stop honing razors, especially new ones, till you can get ahold of a member near you for some one on one instruction on honing. I don't think Hirlau was kidding about a moment of silence for that Boker.

more bluntness, cause I,m not the most subtle guy here. how long have you been straight razor shaving? you need to back up and take Lynns advise about one step at a time, learn to lather, learn to shave , learn to strop, learn to refresh, then learn to hone,, till you can shave you wont have a clue about what the edge is supposed to be like, as evident by how much steel you have removed. fine razor got abused, send it out and get it fixed then go slow, and put your location in your profile instead of hiding, there is more than likely someone close who can help you.
never know you might be close to me, and as critical as I am I am also one who will help Tc“ I,m getting the impression that everyone thinks I have TIME to fix their bikes”

Thanked: 13249You are "Chasing the Edge" ie: the spine and the edge are being worn away at a rate that never allows for the bevel to be set..
As the edge gets close you are grinding away on the spine which changes the angle on the edge and you losing the bevel again as it is worn away
There are so many errors on this razor I do not know where to start ,,
I am not even sure 3 layers of tape will bring that back into form
For other newb honers reading this
There is an expression "When you find yourself in a hole , Stop digging" this also applies to honing
If you keep doing the same thing and making no headway stop honing, grinding away steel is never a good thing, it might sometimes be needed, but is never a good thingLast edited by gssixgun; 11-28-2016 at 03:46 AM.

my friend, what you are doing is not honing,, what is your experience with honing razors? again if you don't even shave with them your fighting an uphill battle. and yes what Glen said you aint even close to Lynns method, cause he don't ever do that to a razor. its your money , so go ahead and keep wrecking them, but the smart thing to do would be send a razor out that you haven't destroyed, or grow a beard . there are plenty of guys out there who can hone one for you till you get an idea.
