I use my cheaper DB Escher 4 inch stone as a slurry stone for my other eschers/thuri's. There is a guy on the bay selling synthetic/natural nagura's that range from 1k to 12k. I bought his 12k, it is natural and keeps me from wearing down my escher four inch. I also would not use my coti slurry as others have mentioned, same with the dmt. Basically you need a pretty hard stone to produce your slurry on that G escher. I feel that you could also get away with using a cheaper koma nagura also available on the bay for less even still.

For me? Its a bad idea for two reasons. Part of your stone gets wasted in the slurry left in the diamond area on the plate. And secondly, there's a chance some diamond/s could break free into your slurry which will cause having to set a new bevel generally.

I have a well worn ez-lap diamond hone that might work, for playing. Not much chance of diamonds coming free on it nor is there cut out "diamonds".

If you have to use something else to raise a slurry and you don't have anything else, go buy some 3k - 5k w/d sandpaper and wrap a little around your finger and scratch you up a little slurry.

    That makes no sense

Sandpaper releases grit like crazy, the exact reason you say not to use a DMT or the like which releases hardly any

    ^^^Yup!

I use the DMT for slurry all the time without issues. I wouldn't even consider sand paper because that grit gets everywhere.

You might try reading a bit more first... Well worn plates release near zero.. as mentioned above

I have never had an issue and hone SR's nearly every day,, but then again my DMT is very well worn (we even explain how to break them in for SR use on here)

Sandpaper on the other hand blows it out everywhere
