Possibly what I would try, having been in your position many times.
3 layers of tape, Dmt, rolling x ... 10 strokes one side and 10 on the other side, replete until rite to the edge or very near.
Then hit a 1k ,3 layers of tape. Ink the bevel and find the least intrusive stroke if that makes sense.
Forget about circles..

I may very well try this if I can not get any where with what I am doing. I know what you suggested on my last wedge worked wonderfully. I have forgotten about circles, only reason I tried that was because I had so much metal to remove I thought it might speed my process up and I found out it in fact did not, lesson learned there
Thanks JOB15

Perhaps there might be honing mentors nearby that can spend some time with you and that razor?
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.

Defiantly the best option is to find a mentor.
Using a DMT plate could do damage to the w&b . A learning curve that is maybe better learnt with a junk razor.

Well I have come back to this razor, I have not had time to get with a mentor for assistance. I wanted to really really pay closer attention to what's going on with this blade. All of this was done with 2 layers of tape.
Basically on 1k level my edge chips out. I have tried the lightest stroke I can perform and it still chips.
I went to 5k just to see if I could sneak up on the edge with a less aggressive stone. This helped but still chips out.
Since I got my 2k the other day I decided to try that and still chips.
I have tried gently killing the edge about 5 times through this process.
The only way I can seem to get a bevel that stays is with 3 layers. Secondary bevel comes in nice crisp and clean. So I set bevel mostly on 1k went up through progression to 12k. Shaves arm hair like a laser. Test shave this morning first few strokes were great. Then started tugging.
After finishing with another razor I looked at the edge. All chippy from the shave.
Euclid I believe you asked what spine thickness was, it is just a hair under 1/4 inch.
If anyone has last minute thoughts please feel free to say. I believe I'm going to send this blade out I can't keep beating a dead horse or I'm gonna ruin this razor. Thanks to all who have made suggestions so far I greatly appreciate your help.Nothing is fool proof, to a sufficiently talented fool...

Thanked: 3795It seems that you have tried a completely reasonable course of action...and failed miserably!
Another option for chippy edges is to switch to an all natural progression. Do you have any natural hones?
Of course though, working it out with Mainaman would be the best option.

No natural stones been wanting to try them just haven't. I have tried all no can think of even went back and read a bunch before trying again. I think its just got the best of me and it is obvious that its above my skill level at this time. Which is fine I have learned a lot from this blade but its going to be sent out. No harm no foul.

Thanked: 3795Alternatively, hang on to it as is until you can watch Mainaman hone it in person.
