Yup, that is probably a good idea. Try to max out what you already have before getting anything else. That is the trouble with naturals from what I have read, they take time to figure out and get good consistent results from. Good luck.

    I own a king 1/6 and a 1K chosera.

With the king I find slurry speeds it up a lot, Once you are set you need to clean it down and do a few more laps without slurry. If you don't do this the thick mud seems to dull the edge a little. I'm more than happy to bevel set with my king. And while it is slower than the chosera it's not painfully slow.

My 6K side has always seemed far more coarse than 6K. My 5K speciality stone is a far finer finish. I almost never let this side slurry as I find it kills a razors edge and you then have to fight the stone to get things feeling sharp again. I have no problems using it after the 1K, and it has never failed to remove the 1K scratches very quickly. Keep this side as wet as you can, and keep adding water or dipping it in a bucket to keep it clear.

Haven't tried the economical Naniwa 1k/3k, but I do like the Suehiro 1k/3k a lot. Very cheap and better than the King line in my opinion, sets things up nicely for natural stones afterwards--coticule to purple slate is pretty good this way. 3k here is very nice. Visually, it seems like a finer stone.

With 1k/3k, one is effectively doing double-duty as to bevel setting. That is a good thing in my opinion, especially if starting out.
