    Stropping seems to be very important for me. I'm still learning the subtle points of working with my linen strop. The leather gives a very nice smooth edge, but only after a 'proper' stropping on linen.

    Yes, that would describe what I do pretty well. I lesson the pressure at the end as well.

    Slight glazing seems to improve the edge I get off off both barber hones and the higher grit Shaptons.

    IMO the hardest thing to learn about honing a razor is patience. The honemeisters may be able to hone
    any razor up in 5 minutes, but for ordinary mortals sometimes you've just got to be patient and not get
    frustrated. If you keep it flat and use a light touch then eventually it *will* get sharp. It may take a few
    days or a week of fine-tuning But it will get there eventually (Pakistani razors excepted).
