Dropped My Razor--Arghh
Doing my two pass shave with my Aust 7/8 Spanish tip horn and thinking about why I ever shave with anything else as the edge was so good. I refreshed it about two weeks ago with an 8 and 12k Nani Super Stone and the edge was just absolutely fantastic, it had almost a mystical shaving ability.
Right about then, something happened and so quickly I don't know what my hand bumped into but the razor was falling and dropping towards the floor. Somehow my instincts kept me from grabbing the razor as it was falling toward it's death on the tile floor. Even with my hearing aids out, the sound of it clattering on the floor was absolutely deafening.
Quick inspection and no visible chips, finished the shave but it will have to be redone. Not sure how low it will have to go until I look at it with the loop.
Two and a half years of straight razor shaving and this is the first drop.
Maybe I should just call in sick today, due to metal anguish.

That is how I got into restoring razors.
I have had that kind of anguish especially when a blade breaks. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 292I guess you got lucky and it landed on the spine or scales rather than on the edge. Whew!
I recently acquired an RA 7/8 French point with blonde horn scales to go with my RA 6/8" Spanish point with African blackwood scales. Both are beautiful razors and fantastic shavers. Aust does good work. I would hate to damage one.

Seems the gods of falling razors were on your side as you didn't inadvertently attempt to catch the razor nor did any significant damage occur. Phew! I'm glad I didn't read you posting about a major chip or crack.

Glad the razor didn't hit anything precious on the way down.

I'm glad it didn't break. That would really be a downer. If I would ever drop any of my favorite blades you would find me shaving with a baseball glove on my left hand the next day.

Honed up four razors Monday night. Took three including the big Aust through the full progression of 1,3,5,8 & 12k Nani's. There were some very minor chips on the edge.
Shaved with the big Aust yesterday and a very nice shave but the mystical edge is gone for now. Hope to get it back at some point, never have shaved with an edge that was absolute perfection. That one was, after my previous touch up. Guess that is what keeps us playing with our hones.

I'm glad it survived the fall.
A few years back ,I dropped a mint condition Boker King Cutter & took a huge chunk out of the middle of the blade.
I didn't get to even finish one shave with it.
I now take extra care with all my Razors.
Cheers Paul
