I'll take up this challenge too. It will take some time, probably a month or so, but I'm in. Should I use my Shapton Glass 500?
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Saw this challenge and it reminded me of the fellow who asked Abraham Lincoln how he like being president,
Lincoln replied, "You have heard the story, haven’t you, about the man who was tarred and feathered and carried out of town on a rail? A man in the crowd asked him how he liked it. His reply was that if it was not for the honor of the thing, he would much rather walk."Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I've gone this route before and will decline the invite however I will detune the razor I carry in my boot and the next time I have occasion to slice someone up I'll ask if he prefers the 1K edge or the 20K.

I'm in, prolly sometime in the next couple of days. I routinely go straight to a Suita from the King 1k, and spent a lot of time shaving off each nagura in the progression when I was starting on Jnats. Should be interesting!

Thanked: 481Yep, when I did the 1K shave last I also did a 4K shave. Also spent 6 months shaving with just 1 blade honed on the Norton 8k, then kept it that way as a control when I started experimenting again.
Well, I suppose you're right. The 4K and 8k are more in spirit of the thread. So that's what I'll go with.

Not my best shave, but I cheated a little and stropped it a couple of times with CRox to make sure I removed the burr. Not something I want to try again though

Thanked: 3795I continue to do something like that. I have a set of razors that have been maintained only with a couple of barber hones since 5 years before I found SRP. After I joined SRP and started buying a few more hones
I kept that set of razors as a control group to compare between my original and new hone options, and that original set still shaves quite well.
Of course, that means I've wasted a lot of money!

Another razor with lots of work with 1K and stoping only. Will give it the shave test tomorrow.
Check out this bevel...
Think I got the stria nice and smooth and small. Its grabbing hair. Crossing my fingers I got the bevel set on this one.
BTW, Corsera Green stone. It's just Sharpening, right?

Just wanna know if the Norton 4/8 Challenge is going to come back...(as in kill the edge, 4/8k only, no 1K, no Crox....)
And for the 1K challenge - can we tape? Can we Zowada ?Support Movember!
