    Seeing the white line from the side? Wow, that would be a big flat spot on the edge. Ive been looking straight down on the edge for the line. Learning more all the time. What a great hobby and great folks sharing info.

    Yep, that's also one of the reasons I haven't invested in a microscope for honing. I can hold a loupe between my thumb and forefinger, then rest the spine of a razor on my ring or middle finger as a guide and sort of rotate the loupe/razor around to see the edge from multiple angles. If you can sort of imagine the perspective panning from a side view like onimaru55's photo and the straight down shot you took. Getting the light to hit the edge from more than 1 angle really helps make any flat/unset spots shine and stick out. I can't imagine trying to pull that off with a scope.
