Subtle point, the allowable tolerance is whatever works.
The hardness of old steel varies a lot more than modern steel.
If I was buying a totally custom razor where I specified the steel and the hardness
the tolerances would be very tight...
Thinning a spine by hand would be crazy difficult.
My take away from this is that I need to measure my razors and make a scorecard.
This one dulls too quickly, this one is never sharp enough, this one is often harsh,
this one is just right...
Then rescore a couple when using tape to adjust.... and see what I learn.
Darn your guys sounds like a project...
EDIT:
I imported the recent version into Google sheets and it worked.
It is not necessary to worry about metric or inches. Just measure
and put the values in. I entered " =(7/8) " for the size and it worked.
For the spine location use the magic marker ink test. As long as the hone
is clearing ink you can measure thickness there and from there to the edge.
Eyeballing with a common tape measure is easy... If you are guessing enter
two lines so you have a +/- value for the angle. i.e. 1/8th inch spine give or take 1/32 inch.
Add a notes column for the do you remember games.Last edited by niftyshaving; 07-11-2017 at 07:31 PM.

Ive added to this program and adjusted it here and there just a pinch. Well as much as this non computer guy can do. Oh, and with the help of my school smart wife, ha.
Ive now got all my razors measured and into this program. Made notes and comments. This thing has elem8nated three other word docs on my computer. Thanks again sqzbxr. I can now go to just one place on my computer to know when, how, who and what is in need and of what when it comes to my razors. It's just Sharpening, right?
