    Default RazorAndStone.com is back

Hello all. I just wanted to post and let everyone know that Razor And Stone (razorandstone.com) is back and operational. For those of you that used to be members, you know what a valuable resource this forum was for all things 'honing'.
If you never checked out the site before now, make your way over there and create an account. This forum (until it went down for awhile last year) was the best resource I had when learning how to hone. And boy did I need a lot of hand holding...
From honing techniques, to hone reviews, to general honing discussion, this site was somewhat of a knowledge archive from some of the best and most experienced honemeisters around.

Unfortunately, when the site went down, the database was lost. As such, it's going to take some time to build back all of the material that was lost. But in time the knowledge will again amass to help future razor honers for years to come!

I am not involved in the forum other than being a member. I'm not an admin or mod and certainly not an owner of the forum. I am merely was a fan of the site and would like to see membership, participation and especially content come back in a big way. So if you're interested in honing or learning how to hone, be sure and get signed up and participate in the learning!

To be honest that site and several others either were a bunch of jerks or bored me. I hope they do better this time around, but we have honing here too. Tc

Certainly wasn't intending that to replace any of the honing content here. Just mentioning it as a compliment to what is here.

One man's opinion on everything said is what destroyed the member base. He would not shut up and hijacked every thread other than those of his Hero's. Was down to about ten folks posting.
Just my opinion watching the site slowly die was sad.

Interesting. Just from a beginner to honing standpoint I found it a great resource. I wasn't too active on the forum at that time though... I really liked how the info was archived and usable. Sounds like they are working on getting some of the old data back as well. I believe modine had some great content on there that is hopefully retrievable.
Whatever your opinion, it's a fresh start and I'm excited about it

One of the 'honing pros' on that site tried to convince me that circle honing would not work, that it would ruin a blade. If that were true why would experts like Lynn and Glen recommend and use it when they hone? I've used circle honing along with straight and x strokes for several years and get some fantastic edges.

I'm not trying to take anything away from that site because I was a member and there was a lot of great expert advice and very helpful members there. I really hated to see it shut down and hope they can get it back up and running successfully again.

I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner to be honest... Or halfstrokes for that matter. If you have a handle on things I don't have an issue with those techniques. I think you do yield some precision/control with circles especially with really thin grinds.

Razor and stone had a lot of great info and visual documentation-particularly before photobucket pulled their stunt. I tended to ignore certain ppl's microscope fetish there as I have had things look amazing under mag yet not really shave to my liking while some coti scratch patterns looked like chaos and shaved beautifully. Geezer's opinion also brings up a valid point
