    You can also go past sharp with a fast hone before you know it, which is what I think is happening here.

    I should also mention the HHT. That can be very helpful as well.

    Hi Alan; I like your way of viewing things. Everyone says use a plan, but all of them differ both in content and complexity. As for myself, I don't want a Ph.D., I want a nice clean shave and your article simplifies this wonderfully.

    I'm thinking Alan should make his article a "Sticky" so that all newbie honers and straight razor users can benefit from it over the long haul. It truly is good food for thought, very sensible in my opinion. Wish I had looked at the issue with such clarity. "Wisdom cannot be taught, it can only be learned through time and experience."

    His approach is very logical and cautious. Work on it slowly, testing as you go, learn what works and what doesen't work seems to be the best policy! I think its wise not to get locked into a routine just because that particular routine works for them. Must strike out and find your own path to shaving nirvana.
