Ivo,
I have one of those too yet mine is lighter and more uniform. The dark color and slight varigation lead me to think it was a Hunsrueck/Eifel.
The stones Kees sell and the ones I get look very similar in real life but slightly different, most Hunsruecks look considerably darker and varigated. maybe it's just the lighting difference betwen our photos.
I'll have to dig out my Hunsrueck and the stones I got from kees and photograph them again.

Actually I think Kees and Manufactum sell the same Muller stones. Be aware though every dealer is different, even if the stones are from the same place. I know Kees sorts and inspects his stones as I do before selling to be sure any inferior ones are weeded out. We have both had issues with inclusions and have had to scrap or return stones. He would be a seller I would trust and i have one of his stones in my collection. I don't expect every dealer goes through that trouble.

Ivo,
To make it even more complicated there are at least 3 Muller firms in Germany selling abrasives. Of course Muller is just about the most common name there too.

Thanked: 9Tony,
I just used the stone with a slurry. Definitely not a fast cutter, and feels smooth on the edge. I think I did over 70 laps and there was not much metal removed at all. So this leads me to think that it is not a Hunsrueck. Honestly, I think I would have liked a faster cutting stone than what it is How fast do the Hunsruecks cut? (comparatively) Lapped and with slurry, my stone looks very much like a regular Escher and I have the label that I have seen on the stones sold by Kees.
Eric,
I am pretty sure they aren't Manufactum Thuringens. Kees said they come from a small family operation, iirc
Pilot,
Kees sold a few under his ebay name Roos something something (number, including 0 and 6, iirc). Not an e-bay store. PM him here if interested, he is always very helpful.
Cheers

Yep!! Didn't you know? It has been mentioned in several posts on SRP.
So I think Tony has it right, in that, while Kees doesn't get his stones from Manufactum, his and manufactums stones are from the same source. Havent played with it too much, but it is quite slow

Thanked: 9Yes, Tony - I remember reading about it. I think there are some variations in the spelling like Mueller vs Muller or something but nevertheless, I just meant that my stone came with the label that I saw on the stones Kees was selling
This settles it, Eric! I am sorry for the misinformation I spread - I understand now that Kees and Manufactum get the Thuringen stones from the same source. I absolutely agree that it's very slow after some work.
Guess I was right to think it's a Thuringen (vs. a Hunsrueck) - in hindsight maybe a Hunsrueck would be better if it cuts just as fine but much faster...
Cheers

I thought I'd add some more info to this thread. Here is a map of Germany, note the area of Thuringer (in grey) in the middle is actually quite large, and accounts for the differences in the stones which can be classified as "Thuringers/Thuringians"
Here is Manufactum's website where they sell their Wasser-Abziehstein (water sharpeningstones) for 19 Euros (roughly $26 USD). The stone is about 7"x2"x3/4".
Here is Wojtec's ebay store where you can get a 6"x2" "Hunsruek" stone for about $35 or an 8"x2" for $47.
Here is Tony's store for Thuringen stones. He might not always have them in stock, but he has a listing on ebay right now here.
I'm not sure, but I think you'll have to PM Kees for a sale on his stock.
