I returned to straight razor honing from high end knife sharpening. Knowing how to sharpen a knife does not help you, and in fact works against you. There are two things all knife people have to re-learn to be successful at honing straight razors.

One, ‘If the hone isn’t producing the desired sharpening result, push harder.’ Two, ‘If the edge isn’t cutting well, push harder.’ If you do the first one, you will damage the razor, if you do the second, you will damage yourself.

That razor video was so bad it makes me want to delete the posts praising his shear sharpening video.

It's funny that the shear video was 6 years old and the razor video was 5 years old, and it appears that he aged 20 years between them. I watched the shear video again and saw a major problem with it. Mainly that he never actually shows the shape of the blades or discuses the difference between convex and bevel edge shears. After watching again I'm not certain what he was working on.

I want to thank Euclid440 for being a local mentor and showing me the proper way to hone a razor a few years ago. Without guidance, i may have attempted a similar technique for bread knifing. This video is the wrong way to do it.

I'm not sure if this is the guy or not, but there's another guy finishing on 30k with such force and speed, I was amazed that's even possible. You just can't see the razor, that's how fast it goes.
