They claim to use a 1k,5k,8k,10k followed iron oxide paste. The pictures however show a yellow hone ( coticule?) and what looks like a Thuringian.

Additionally, the yellow hone looks convex.
It almost seems like they used stock photos that don't match their text? Weird. And this is zoomed in on the yellow hone: I don't think it just looks convex... yikes.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I don’t think I’d want to ask him about straight razor shaving.

My guess is that the guy designing the web site is not the same guy who is honing the razors. Having spent 20+ years in manufacturing facilities, what happens on the floor isn't necessarily what the world sees or even what the guy in the front office sees.

This might be more accurate on how Dovo hones blades.

Don't they always need honing out of the box anyway?

I hone a lot of new Dovos, very few are close to shave ready.

Dovo used to claim honing on Coticules. The yellow stone looks like a King Ice bear 8-10k hone on a wooden dai. The other stone is likely a 325-diamond plate. Have you ever heard of a 325 grit synthetic stone?

Dovo has use the convex stone for years and one of their dealers is a proponent of convexing stones to match their technique. He is also a Coticule vendor. Dovo used to claim honing on Coticules

A convex stone will hone a warped razor easier for those who lack technique. The downside is a smaller contact area, notice the swarf pattern in the middle of the stone. That is how much of the razor is on the stone. Remember the goal is a flat bevel and straight edge. Which will make a flatter bevel and straighter edge honing a ¼ inch of the edge at a time or 3 inches?

You can accomplish the same thing by allowing the heel to hang off the edge and using a rolling X stroke and you will have more stone contact.

Dovo makes a nice razor for the money, could they improve? Sure, time equals money.

Thanks for sharing Bob. It looks like they are using synthetic stones.

This video perfectly explained why my razor's edge warped to the side. I can clearly see that the center part of the razor touching the hone much more than the tips. So if that happened to both sides evenly or more or less the same, a frown would be resulted. If one side much more than the other, a warped edge.

If I saw this earlier, I would have walked away from Dovo.
