These predominate issues that you speak of Bob, are really a testament that jarrod is spewing forth ka ka from the mouth. If these so called masters were using them they would not be like this, it’s more than likely a new generation of hipsters making these RSO,s not qualified razor smiths. That time is gone

Thanked: 562Another Dovo disaster bevel
I just received a Dovo that was only used a few times without success by the previous owner.
I’m not surprised he had problems getting a good shave with that razor. It had a significant frown in the center 3/4 of the blade.
Based on the number of incidents of this kind of quality control issue with Dovos reported on this forum alone, I would not purchase a Dovo straight razor from a reseller who was not also an accomplished honer and guaranteed the razor to be shave ready before it left his shop.
It is ironic that the Dovo packaging includes a warning about how to care for the razor with an assertion that the edge should last for months with careful stropping.

Amen brother, I wouldn’t buy one either unless the seller affirms under right of return, that it hones normally on a flat hone.
You can see all of the problem in the attached image.
But Dovo’s biggest problem in the US now is Jarrod Connerty who continues to post as a German under fake accounts on several forums including this one. His posts cause many people to post images of frowning razors, horror stories like yours, and general airing of the dirty laundry that would not have received a lot of ‘air time’.
Jarrod and his ‘gilded (sic), apprenticed master Solingen honer’ crap has hurt them more than anyone else could have by drawing a great deal of attention to their rather prominent shortcomings. And he’s done this, impersonating a German citizen on world wide forums. If I were Dovo, I’d sent him a ‘cease and desist’ order.Last edited by Steve56; 05-05-2021 at 09:09 PM.

Thanked: 562Just a follow up to my previous post about the frowning Dovo.
Following Glen’s process, I removed the frown and added a slight smile while resetting the bevel using a coarse DMT.
Then I honed using a 1K - 4K - 8K progression and finished on a coticule.
The result was a very pleasant BBS shave with the razor. The problem was certainly not a result of the quality of the steel or the geometry of the razor.
It is really unfortunate that Dovo lets quite good razors leave their factory with edges damaged by whatever their sharpening process is. That is compounded by their statement that the warrantee expires when the owner tries to fix the problem they created.David

The Dovo Best Quality I bought years ago, gave me fits.
Not only did it have a frown, but the shoulder was never ground on one side of the stabilizer.
I had to grind it out, with a pencil wheel.
Not the first time I've seen issues with the stabilizer's.Mike

I got out my modern Dovo Bismark, one of two plain blade razors that were sold by yes, Jarrod as the Dovo Pallisander for the pallisander wood scales. It was a fantastic idea, if you got a good one. One of mine is good and one has the hollow overground (frownie) but only on one side. The good one I re-scaled in donor scales from a trashed Wostenholm razor, thin, probably ivory celluloid scales. The razor only weighs 49g and handles like a MK 32, and shaves almost as well. Replacing the surfboard scales on any modern German razor with proper ones is a huge improvement. So let’s not forget that Dovo can make a great razor, if they want to. If only they made them all like this they wouldn’t be in trouble. I wish them the best.
