    Yes a coticle will cause spine wear. Use tape.
    That brings me to my second question, is tape necessary with Arks? They cut so slowly that I can't help but wonder if necessary there either.
    In the right hands using featherlight strokes a finishing hone is not going to put wear on a spine but If you've set the bevel and gone through transition hones with tape you might as well carry on and use tape

    DE could also stand for Delaware, which is actually a state in the US, just a Yankee one, which is why many people have never heard of it.
