I like my kitchen knives sharp. My wife wants them dull because she thinks that is safer. I am unable to convince her that a sharp knife is a safe knife.

However, she tends to cut things in her hands towards her hand. I stay out of sight while that is going on. The bandage box stays close at hand. I don’t know how she has managed not to cut herself all these years.

I dice onions in my hand. With a sharp knife, that is.

I have talked myself blue in the face trying to get my wife to stop cutting meat against a broiling pan or a plate. I have almost gotten her to stop putting the knives in the dishwasher.

HaHa, I am such a bad boy.

I chuck all our knives in the kitchen sink, except for my expensive chef's knives but they're kept in a knife roll and she won't touch them because she say's they're too sharp.

I'm the only one to use those knives and they never go into the sink or dishwasher. My son bought them for me for Christmas, he paid 500 pounds UK for them over 20 years ago so I treat them with a lot of respect.

The day I got them I used them while i was helping to make the Christmas Dinner. I was doing the brussel sprouts and nearly cut my finger off, day one

Talking of putting stuff where it's not supposed to go.

Someone keeps putting vegatables in my beer crisper!

My candy bar crisper was repurposed to a vegetable crisper when my girlfriend moved in. It's been 16 years and I'm still bitter.

Ok, my Naniwa 1k SS arrived, I lapped it on 400 diamond plate. Actually I lapped the 1K, 3K, 8K and 12K all on the 400 plate.

I got out my Thiers Issard that arrived the other day from a guy here that had given up on straight shaving, it had only been used a couple of times and it had no edge, not even a factory edge. I imagine the 3 Naniwas I bought from him at he same time had something to do with it.

I added a layer of Kapton Tape and did 20 circles each way, 20 half strokes back and forth each way, 20 light x-strokes. I gently joined the edge on the corner of the stone and did 6 no pressure x-strokes. I tested the edge on my arm and repeated the process again.

I was pleased so that was the 1K done.

3k now. I did 20 circles, 15 half strokes and 20 light x-strokes. I joined the edge and did 6 no pressure x-strokes. Very happy.

I got out the 8K. 15 circles, 15 half strokes, 15 light x-strokes. I joined the edge and did 6 no pressure x-strokes. It started tree topping the odd hair so now i am cooking with gas.

12k. 10 light circles, 10 light half strokes, 10 no pressure x-strokes. I joined the edge and did 6 no pressure x- strokes then 6 more.

I did 40 laps on flax, 60 laps on herringbone cotton, 40 laps on English Bridal Leather and 100 laps on buffalo.

That Tiers Issard is truly amazing, it has the best, most atom splitting edge I have ever produced.

I honestly cannot believe that I got that edge without much honing, I have never had an edge so nice. All my edges take a lot more work than that, or do they. Maybe I was over honing and doing more than I needed too.

I know that the stones don't make a difference and my edges would be the same whether I used Nani's or Nortons. Of course the edges will be the same, NOT, my Nani's are lovely and it would be completely impossible to make my lovely edge on any other stones in the whole world

I know that Kapton is stronger than Electrical tape but I didn't need to change it at all so I gues the preesure is about right.

    Hey Steve.

That TI is a very nice razor and you did it proud to hone it back into good shaving shape.

I bought that fellow’s Dovo. It produced a really nice shave after a bevel set and a norton 4/8 followed by a coticule.

I think he gave up after trying to hone his own razors with no mentoring. I feel we could have helped him out if he had contacted SRP and asked for some guidance before trying to hone his razors on his own.

Unfortunate for him, but good fortune for us.

    Nice STF,

Do the lower grits feel like the 12k? I'm still not sure I like the way the stone feels, but at least I think I'm starting to understand when it feels like it is doing its thing.
