Thanks I will do a search for pasted strops when I get ready to make mine. I eventually want to get a 4k/8k Norton, but you are suggesting getting something higher than 8k, so I will take that into account also.

I do soak the stone for about 30min prior to using it and also use a spray bottle of water during the sharpening. I create a slurry on top of the stone and leave it there to help sharpen the edge faster. I think the picture shows the stone dry, which may have led to your comment.

As far as sharp edges go, the difference between 6k and 8k is not that noticeable. A 10k stone will give you a marked improvement in comfort, 12k will be slightly better but may take too long to remove those 6k grit scratches. Check out the "hone review" forum for various finishing stones.

The pasted strop is the "express lane" to very sharp, very comfortable edges. It'll get you up and shaving in no time and let you focus on getting the other aspects of shaving under control without having to worry about perfecting your honing procedure.

i started with the king 6k and i could get a shave off of it, but it was uncomfortable. if you can get some pastes to go with, you would be more set. good luck.

and yeah, that strop is simple and sweet. great job.
