Hone lapping 101 discussion
Guys, I've been wanting to do some photo tutorials for a while. I finally broke down and did one today on hone lapping.
Did I miss anything? I tried to stick to the basics and be as thorough as possible without getting overly complex.
Let me know what you think.
Have a good one,
Josh

Thanked: 22I think it was very well done Josh. And like the old saying goes "A picture can paint 1000 words"

Josh, this was a perfect tutorial - something that was only previously covered in writing or in Lynn's DVD - the pictures are a great resource!
I nominate this post to be put both as a Sticky, and in the new Newbie FAQ postings!

Lapping isn't the most difficult of topics, but I thought maybe one photo tutorial could answer a lot of the less common questions, too. Like how much pressure to use, how do I hold my DMT, etc.

When lapping the coticule, do you go to a higher grit after the 300-400 or so you start off with?

I don't, actually. I find the 325-grit lapping leaves a very nice surface. I also liked the surface on the Norton that I get with a DMT 325.

Bruce, it's in the other thread on Lapping 101 - I'm assuming he wanted his pictured thread to be left alone, and us natter on about it here?

That's a fantastic illustrative thread Josh. Really shows everyone precisely how it's done.
Brilliant!
