Thread: Gold plating/decoration ?

This might be a dumb question, but...When you hone a razor with gold plating on the spine, does it rub off? It seems like you would take the gold, or any other decoration off of the side of the spine while honing. Do you guys have this problem? Are you not supposed to rub the spine while honing (its kind of hard to tell from the dvd)?

If you are referring to Lynn's DVD it covers off honing decorated blades.

Yes, the gold will rub off as you roll the blade over during the 2nd half honing stroke. Try taping all the decorated spine areas that will be in contact with the hone.
Every time you hone it you will have to reapply the tape.
