Looks like mould to me and a waste of time and money.

Man I would have torched it and like really bleached my hands.

Each to their own I guess.

Watch out, you never know, the mold might release toxic fumes!

If I were to attempt to salvage it, since you believe it might have been an oil hone, I would clean it off and then soak it in a heavy solution of Simple Green, to get rid of the oil and then see if it can be salvaged from there - try to get a clean slate going.

Of course, that might simply destroy the hone...

Hone with Growth has now been placed in an unused corner of a fallow yard that doesn't feed into my well and is away from the garden. I'll check on it a few times this spring, and see if it kills much of the plant life around it. Oh well.

And why are we agonizing over a piece of junk? Go out to your favorite DIY handy dandy store and get a Crystolon wannabe from China. It won't work on razors either, but it won't be nearly as ugly.

Wow...like stated earlier...keep that away from open wounds...if that shit'll grow on a hone, imagine what it could potential do to your skin....yikes
