Stone holder? I just bought the 4/8K that comes with it's blue case...I dunno if that counts as a "stone holder"

    Never mind…

I bought the Norton with the holder (the holder has huge rubber blocks to hold the stone so it doesn't slide when honing) but the rubber has a pungent smell… like a new car tire or fumes at the gas station. I don’t use the holder because of it “yuck”… still sitting in its box in the garage. My hone though is quite odorless.

But since you do not have the holder then it must be something else.

It is suggested the stone be stored wet, It could have been stored in a “damp” place and got moldy, and then they sprayed it with “moldicyde” (is there such a word?).
