    Sticky,

We have a "sticky" for the pyramid honing process. Will you be providing a similar tutorial for the progressive honing system? Those of us less informed and practiced in honing razors can then make some personal decisions about which to try first and possibly even attempt to guess which may work the best for our tortuous (adult) learning curves. (thanks Bleg, I knew there had to be a reason for the painfully slow pace at which I now acquire and process new information)

Hopefully you can be patient with us who are not yet, nor may never be, expert at honing a razor, but are eager to learn, and anxious to try, those new processes from those who have mastered the skills. I know you can appreciate the anticipation of a beginner when he hears that this new path is smooth and easily trod and the disappointment the tyro feels when hearing the map to this new path is not available.

    Dear Bruce,

There's not much incentive until AFDavis11 gets back to me (us, actually) about the results of his proposal on the moderators' forum regarding making it a sticky.

Try to be patient. Work on the tutorial/guide has been under way for well over 3 days now. It isn't mine by any means, it is a collaborative effort by many (I am a minor contributor, in reality) to help end a new user's confusion. Shucks...I haven't even asked for credit if any of my ideas are used. Hopefully, when it is done, you and others will have 2 stickies. Ideally, they will be side-by-side, thereby giving you two easy to find alternate procedures. Most adults do not suffer a "tortuous adult learning curve", but I would agree with you that having all the information in one place is one possible cure for it. From what I've seen of the "Progressive Honing Guide" so far, it will be very simple to use. After all, almost all the concepts and procedures in it really have been used (and learned) by multiple pre-schoolers. Names available on request, just shoot me a PM.

You are setting your goals way too high. No need to become an expert. All you need is the ability to sharpen your own. Once you understand the use of tests, your path will be smooth and without too many pebbles under foot.

The map is available now. It simply needs to be consolidated in an all-in-one-post/thread so that it can be found w/o spending weeks of searching. Hence the need for a "Progressive Honing Guide".

I am flattered that you would think that I have enough years of experience to undertake such a mission in your behalf. You must think that I learned to sharpen when I was a pre-schooler. I accept the compliment, and the mission, in the spirit in which it is given.

    Thank you,

You've got a green light, incentive, and an awaiting audience. :-)

cool, by the way there was mention of a map. Where is it and how much does it cost.

On a more serious note....I would like to thank all of you that are willing to take the time to discuss what you have learned annd discovered. This morning I did a test shave a my first atempt at honing....it sucked...lol. I did one pass and then grabbed my DE. The funny thing is that I don't care if it failed. While it may have been nice to get the perfect shave the first time I wouldn't have really had a clue as to why it worked. I'm also having more fun than I have had in some time (no I don't lead a sheltered life). I happen to work with my hands making and breaking jewelry all day long. It happens to be relaxing to do something with my hands at night. That also happens to give a personal benifit.....on the down side I have more ADs then ever
