Thread: chromiun oxide

Hi guys i'm from the uk and would like to no if any one could sell me some chronium oxide or no of any supplier i no tony miller put it on my pre pasted paddle but i carn't get old of him at the minute as he is on vaccation , also 1.0 & 0.5 diamond paste thanxs gary.

According to Chris's sig, he will ship a small amount of CrO (Enough for 2 or 3 strops I believe), for $6 international.
I believe the diamond pastes can be had here http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cgi-bin/ps...ser::1,0,0,1::
but they only seem to have the 1/2 micron one.

I am getting some from Chris - pretty cheap for a trial even to the UK. I found these people selling chrome oxide on eBay in UK. I have asked them about it and they have said that people buy it for polishing as well as a variety of other things. He couldn't tell me if it was .5 microns or not. I think it may well be the same thing. I asked ChrisL to have a look and he said again that it looks like it but - never know till it is tried. It states that it is Cr2O3 - perhaps somebody else with more knowledge of this can chip in here? Any chemistry buffs?

Cr2O3 is just the chemical symbols for Chromium Oxide ... 2 Chromium atoms bond to 3 Oxygen atoms. It doesn't necessarily tell you anything about the grit level.

S'pose it just needs tried out. Maybe I should buy some and send it to someobody who has used standard chrome oxide for a while to test. It is certainly a cheap and local supply if OK.

Get yourself a piece of flat cardboard or balsa wood, apply a thin layer, and do 20 or 30 laps on a razor. Test shave.

If it's decently fine chromium oxide, you'll probably get a significant improvement in the shave. If it's that good stuff, it'll knock your socks off. Good chromium oxide leaves a velvety smooth edge.
