try that before giving up on them. The Tam O'Shanter with slurry, approx 6000 grit, is an ideal stone to use after the 4k.
    For me anyway. YMMV.
You are absolutely right. I was honing a magnetized blade this morning, and used the norton. I was surprised at how it was no longer flat after what I thought was light use over the past week.

And yes, the results were great, and much more controllable than the DMT 8EE, IMO. I also liked how you can pyramid the 8000 with the yellow coticule like Lynn suggested - very effective. I think I will be playing around with the norton a lot more.

fwiw I just sold my norton. Ever since I got the D8EE I really hadn't touched the Norton, so I passed it on to a guy who will be using it. (And because I needed to make room for what will likely be the head honcho of my finishing stones)

The D8EE could be used in a pyramid fashion the same way the norton could be, no?

I don't do pyramids at this point so it's not an issue for me; Not saying the pyramid is bad, it's just something I got away from but may go back to in the future. It's all about experimentation, baby!

I have been using the glass stones instead of my Norton 4K/8K lately and the pyramids work just fine. The Shapton glass stones are a great alternative. I still have a couple Nortons hanging around as well.

    Have fun,

    Lynn
