I will lap any stone I sell for $5 per surface. The Nortons absolutely need lapping prior to use. You will feel a major difference between an unlapped norton and a lapped one. The stone will be smoother and the crown will be gone. You can use your D8C for this by putting it in the sink and playing a stream of water over it while you lap the stone. The water washes away the swarf.
