Thanked: 150These stones aren't just rated by grit, how fast they cut is also a factor, as well as how hard the stone is.
Mine has a very fine grit, cuts pretty slow and is very hard, essentially it polishes like CrO powder, so I'd call it 30k-ish (maybe higher, maybe lower, at those levels it's hard to be exact).
Either way, they are great stones and you won't find them cheaper than O_S has 'em priced at.

Congrats JMS. Very cool find. It's nice when you can get a stone that should be good but turns out to be superb. Also, those costs are right around a Shapton 30k. If they work better than a 30K, I'm all for natural over manufactured believe it or not. I don't yet have a 30K so I'm tempted to try a Japanese stone.
I've steered clear of Japanese stones on purpose to date; not because I have any doubt about their performance, but because there are so many varieties of Japanese stones they could fuel my HAD for a lifetime (How much to you figure So's collection is worth? I rest my case.) and the prob is so many are so freakishly expensive it's crazy.
JMS, maybe you can farm out your new stone to some of us on a rotating basis for all of us to try it?
Last thought, I see the title of this thread and can't help but think......Yeesh, what did I do??

Wow. Millions of dollars worth of stones in one collection.
I'm being very careful knowing my disposition that my acquision disorders don't get out of hand. My litmus test so far has been IF....I start getting so attached to my stones, razors, etc that the thought of giving them up or losing them would cause me serious or even moderate emotional discomfort, I've got too much stuff and need to pare down. Others can probably amass huge collections of things and not feel in any way that the things are running their lives. I can't. Weird, huh? Me I mean, not people that collect with no ill effects.

For me it is a zero sum game.
I make money by honing troublesome razors and restoring really bad razors, and then I spend it on hones, mostly, and other razor related things for special projects.
I only spend money that is on my paypal account. So I have no problems at all with plonking down $$$ for that nakayama I recently bought, or for the 8x3 coticule and DMT plate I bought before that, or ...
And more importantly, my wife doesn't mind either. Because in the end, I am still ahead of the game because I never spend any of my 'real' money.
I also find that I am strangely unattached to that money because it is a bit like monopoly money, which is more for keeping score than anything else.
anyway, this attitude has kept me from doing stupid things.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
