Lapping is smoothing or flattening, and it's done whenever something needs to be flattened or smoothed.
Many hones require occasional or frequent lapping in order to remain flat and smooth.Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode. Link is at top of SRP's homepage

Thanked: 402Lapping cleans and planes your hone.
You can do it with sandpaper (W/D)
silicone carbide on a flat surface
lapping plates of all kinds.
Chamfering is taking care of the edges of a hone.
They should be rounded or at least a bit beveled.

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
