Thanked: 3795Sorry to be a party-pooper but I don't think this thread clears up anything. The Swaty was one of the most popular hones ever made and as a result lots of them were made. Variations, knock-offs, and licensed versions were made. The fact that someone made a hone with the words "three line" does not mean that only one with those words is a three line hone.

Thanked: 2209When I started this str8 shaving stuff the only explanation I heard was 3 lines of text. This is the first time I have seen "3 Line" imprinted on one.
I also have a bunch of them, and some 2 line, they are not all the same.
Just my two cents,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Randy, could you elaborate on the differences as well as the similarities?

Hi..newbie here!
I have another wrench to throw into this discussion.
I have a Swaty hone that is totally different and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
It says:
Franz Swaty
Three Line
Diamond Hone
And the sticker on the side only has two lines of print.
Any ideas??

Thanked: 335Yes it does and does so on three lines of lettering. But did the good herr Franz make it? I thought he was Austrian, not American.

3 lettering
the 1 st picture is the good herr Franz top slide.
i don't think so three lines of lettering means same .The reason is first hone and last hone both have 3 line lettering an dact 360 degree different each other.three line hone is courser then 3 lettering (last picture in top slide)3 lettering is more finer.
i am little confused ?why people doesn't want to accept three line hone and three lettering hone are different?why so maney of you are in denial?
i have showed
Austrian
German
american three line hones still not accepting it?

It appears that "SWATY" may have been commoditized at some time with the name being molded into many different hones, probably by different manufacturers. The only thing consistent seems to be the inconsistency.
