Default Suita V's Chosera scratch pattern

I've finally got the Japanese Suita hone working properly and thought it worth while to show the scratch patter of the Naniwa Chosera 10,000 grit and the Shinden suita as a comparison. Both of these hones give a great shave without the need for any pastes. Just a good stropping will do the trick. Well it works for me and I like a smooth shave.

The photographs show the effect of twenty return strokes on the hone with an already polished and sharp razor.

First the 10K Synthetic Naniwa Chosera at 50x and then the Japanese Natural Suita at 50x and a feather super pro 50x for comparison

Next the 10K Synthetic Naniwa Chosera at 200x and then the Japanese Natural Suita at 200x and a feather super pro 200x for comparison

Very interesting. Thanks for posting the pics. This 10k Chosera is an interesting and mysterious little anomaly, isn't it then? I say this because the scratch pattern IMO mimics a much coarser stone. Think about it, you'd never see that kind of scratch pattern on an 8k Norton, a Chinese 12k, a coticule, Thuringian, etc. Very interesting. Don't you agree, that scratch pattern seems intense for that grit rating?

No Chris, I was quite impressed at how flat rather than undulating the surface had become. But I can see your point.

Maybe its the photography is a bit to sharp. I actually checked all the way up from 1500 wet and dry to the coticule and then the Chosera. The grit pattern improved significantly each time.

I'll have to take a shot of something as a reference. Maybe a feather razor edge. will show the quality.

    I'll post it above soon.

    Thanks for the pics!

I know that pics don't show how well a razor can shave, but I'm a sucker for them anyway. In the pictures, it appears that the edge off of the Chocera 10K is reflecting much more light than that of the suita. Perhaps in the future setting the razor in the same position, with the same angle in respect to the light source would be a good idea, so that the images are easier to interpret.

Not trying to bash your work or anything, just a suggestion.

    Thanks

    Ben,

    I think you are correct.
If I get time, I'll try again. But this time I/ll use blue tac or something.
I've only got one of those hand hold magnifiers and when you rest it on the blade for maximum magnification
    everything moves.
The bottom line is however, the Suita is much finer than the Chosera. At present, I am shaving off the Chosera followed by Cr Ox and then leather stropping and the shave is just great. Sharp and smooth.
I'm looking to get the suita to replace the Cr Ox and it's showing potential but I'm just learning with it and like all natural hones, you need to experiment to get it working at it' optimum.

    But thanks for your observations.
